Jessica McGovern

Jessica was my teaching mentor at the BYU English Language Center. This meant that during my first couple of semesters teaching there, I met with her regularly to discuss my teaching progress and concerns. She also observed me twice per semester.

"Jenna Smith began teaching at Brigham Young University’s English Language Center Fall Semester 2023. I was immediately drawn to her because of her great kindness and Christlike attitude and gentle behavior toward all other human beings, including her students, fellow teachers, all members of the ELC staff, and even me. As the ELC’s teacher mentor, I met with her weekly that semester and bi-weekly the following semester and observed her teaching several times in the classroom.

Jenna is a highly competent teacher, who is warm, friendly, and personable in the classroom. She exhibits amazing classroom management skills and draws her students quickly into her heart. Some of the comments I have written on her observation forms are: professional appearance, lots of smiles and compliments, nice teacher energy, great teacher voice, great tone variation, lots of student movement, great class rapport, good thorough monitoring, excellent individual accountability, great transitions between activities including rationale, best lesson plans ever, nice scaffolding, all students participating, shows concern for each individual student, and great use of pair work.

I feel strongly that Jenna will make a positive contribution wherever she goes and can comfortably recommend her for any position in her field."
